L.V. McWhorter’s Roots in WV and Contributions to Justice
Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Charleston, WV
Canvass Dinner
Bob and I will be speaking about the life of Lucullus Virgil McWhorter and performing some related music. L.V. lived half of his life in West Virginia, growing up in a home where his father was the first Universalist minister in WV. Then he moved to Yakima, WA, where he helped the local Yakama tribe save their land and water rights and documented the story of the flight of Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce as told by warriors who were on the trek. His valuable collecting of oral history informed the work of Alvin Josephy and many other historians and authors.
